Qutub Minar is India's second largest, attractive and historical monument, is located at Aurobind Marg, Mehrauli Delhi. It is made in unique architectural style using red sandstone and marble. It is believed that the Mughals built this victory tower to celebrate their victory over the Rajputs. It is counted in the world famous minarets and is added to the World Heritage Sites. It is 73 meters long, 14.3 meters base diameter, 2.7 meters top diameter, 379 stairs and five storeyed towers.

What is the History of Qutub Minar ?

The construction of Qutub Minar was started by Qutub-uddin Aibak and was completed by Iltutmish. The construction work of this tower was completed in 1200 AD. It is one of the greatest masterpieces of Mughal architecture, a multi-storey building with beautiful carvings. It is one of the attractive tourist destinations, which attracts a large crowd every year to see it from corners around the world. It has suffered a lot of destruction due to the earthquake however, at the same time it has also been rebuilt by the rulers.

Its upper two floors were rebuilt by Feroz Shah, which was destroyed in the earthquake. Another reconstruction work was done by Alexander Lodi in 1505 and by Major Smith in 1794 in the destroyed parts of the tower. It opens at 6 am on all days of the week, and closes at 6 pm.

The tower was constructed a long time ago using red sandstone and marble. It has many outer edges and cylindrical or curved pathways and its balconies separate its floors. The first three floors of Qutub Minar have been constructed using red sandstone, however, the fourth and fifth floors have been constructed with marble and sandstone.

At the base of this tower is a Quwwat-ul-Islam (which is believed to be the first mosque built in India) mosque. The Qutub complex has an iron pillar with a Brahmi inscription of 7 meters in height. Many verses of the Quran (sacred mythology of Muslims) have also been written on the walls of the tower. It also keeps its history written in Devanagari and Arabic form.
