Kalidasa

Works of kalidasa, kalidasa

Kalidasa is one of the greatest poet and dramatist of the Gupta Empire. His dramas where related to the veda, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, and the Puranas. He composed poetry and plays in Sanskrit. He is known as "Kavikulaguru". He is known in the literary field after Ashvaghosha, another great Sanskrit poet.

Birth place of Kalidasa:

There is no definitive information about his birth place of Kalidasa. There has been much debate. There are many legends. The chief three of these dental swords are observed.

  1. The first was that kalidasa was a shepherd and a boon from the Goddess Kali, and a princess married this uneducated shepherd by the cunning of her father's court minister. It is unbelievable that Kalidasa did so as a scholar in the morning. It is evident to those who practiced his works that he was an expert in Veda, Shastra, Purana, etc. Also from his poetry the stages in which poetry is raised can be traced. This story, born on the name of 'Kalidasa', is not credible.
  2. The second is that he was the court poet of King Bhoja Raja of Dharapur, as the king's inner friend, completing many of his most difficult problems. Bhoja Raja of Dharapur is of the eleventh century. Kalidasa was five centuries ahead of him. So this story is untrue!
  3. The third is that in the days of Kumaragupta, Kalidasa went to Lanka and there he was cheated and killed by a prostitute. Scholars believe that this story may have originated from his eroticism.

Birth and education

There is no information about Kalidasa's birth. It is said that he was born in the clan of the shepherds, and was a good-looking sheep. It is as if he was innocent and foolish. Just as he did his marriage to a princess under the cunning of a ruthless minister. As soon as she knew the truth, she ordered him to perform a nightmare of the Goddess Kalikadeva overnight. Hence the name Kalidasa. His birth, ignorance, silliness, etc., may be true; A wedding with a princess can also be done by the minister's cunning. It is plausible that the princess, perhaps, had learned more from the hands of the princess than from the boon of Kali. Similarly, he is foreign, and all his knowledge of science, geography, astrology, etc. comes from a Greek background; But there is no basis for this.
